The term hyaluronic acid is actually not as famous as its Taiwanese English translation of hyaluronic acid, probably because of the development of the cosmetic industry, injection of hyaluronic acid is more popular than smearing of hyaluronic acid. In fact, hyaluronic acid itself is not a new raw material in the cosmetic industry, but this interesting raw material is not as simple as imagined.
Hyaluronic acid is a macromolecular polysaccharide classified from the bovine vitreous body by Meyer and Palmer, professors of ophthalmology at Columbia University in 1934. Its aqueous solution is transparent glass, so it is also called hyaluronic acid.
Later, it was found that hyaluronic acid is one of the main components of the human extracellular matrix and intercellular substance, which is the filler between cells and plays an important role in the shape, structure and function of the skin.
Hyaluronic acid is the main component of human interstitial cells, and the appearance of aging, wrinkles, and relaxation in the human body has a great relationship with the reduction of hyaluronic acid content in the skin. Therefore, in medical cosmetology, hyaluronic acid is often used for injection to fill acne pits, remove wrinkles, delay aging, and is also used in lip thickening surgery, rhinoplasty surgery, etc.
Structurally, it is actually the condensation of two glucose derivatives, and then repeating this structure continuously, it becomes hyaluronic acid, which is very close to the structure of most polysaccharides. It is because of this structure that most Polysaccharides have the function of moisturizing.
Hyaluronic Acid Molecular Formula
But why is hyaluronic acid more "net red" compared to other polysaccharides, mainly because hyaluronic acid is a kind of natural moisturizing factor in the skin, which has an extremely powerful moisturizing effect.
The application of hyaluronic acid in skin care products has been very popular in the past two years. There are thousands of products using hyaluronic acid in a casual search, but when we talk about hyaluronic acid, we are only talking about a large category. Hyaluronic acid is not a single raw material, it can be subdivided into many categories, but it is not rigorous enough to say vaguely that there is hyaluronic acid in this product.
Generally speaking, products such as hyaluronic acid will exist in the form of its sodium salt, and according to different molecular weights, it can be divided into large molecular weight, medium molecular weight and small molecular weight hyaluronic acid.
Classification of Hyaluronic Acid
Different types of hyaluronic acid have very different effects. According to the molecular weight, hyaluronic acid can be divided into the following four categories:
◆High molecular weight hyaluronic acid: The molecular weight of hyaluronic acid is higher than 2000KDa, which can form a breathable film on the skin surface, lock moisture on the skin surface, prevent moisture from evaporating, and keep moisturizing for a long time. But the penetration is poor and will not be absorbed by the skin.
◆Medium molecular weight hyaluronic acid: The molecular weight of hyaluronic acid is between 500KDa and 2000KDa. It can also form a breathable film on the skin surface to lock moisture and tighten the skin.
◆Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid: The molecular weight of hyaluronic acid is between 10KDa and 500KDa, which can penetrate into the dermis layer of the skin, play a role in the skin, lock moisture, promote skin metabolism, and make the skin moist, smooth, delicate, tender and elastic . The ability to prevent moisture evaporation is poor.
◆Oligomerized hyaluronic acid: The molecular weight of hyaluronic acid is less than 10KDa, that is, the hyaluronic acid molecule with less than 50 monosaccharide structures and a degree of polymerization less than 25 can penetrate deep into the dermis, play an all-round and continuous moisturizing effect, and be transparent to ordinary Moisturizing acid molecules have different moisturizing effects on the surface of the skin. The moisturizing lasts for a long time and the effect is good. After long-term use, it also has the effect of anti-aging and removing wrinkles.
With the continuous improvement of people's material living standards, the attention to the skin has also increased, which has also led to the birth of some cosmetics with anti-aging, moisturizing and beauty products, which has also intensified the fierce competition in the cosmetics industry. How to distinguish the quality of hyaluronic acid in a more detailed manner to make full use of it is one of the issues we need to discuss. Starting from all aspects, improving the quality standards of cosmetic products is the top priority right now.
